Working Group Updates
OMA3 has three active working groups and all of them are having an impact this year. Here’s the update.
- The Portaling and Mapping Working Group
- We are confident we can release a draft specification of IWPS (Inter World Portaling System) before the end of the year. Two critical decisions we will be making in the next few meetings relate to the transfer of teleportation data between virtual worlds as well as minimum requirements for the identity framework. We hope to work with our partner organizations such as Metaverse Standards Forum, Metaverse Japan, and yes Blockchain Game Alliance to get more feedback on these decisions. Once those are made the spec writing can happen quickly.
- This year we also expect to release a technical paper on the implementation work a few of our dedicated members have been doing in the background. Expect to see some sample code as well!.
- The Token and Infrastructure Working Group
- The OMA token generation event (TGE) happened smoothly and about 70 wallets received allocations. Members can view their token unlock schedule at token.oma3.org. In the next several weeks they’ll be able to stake on OMA3 bounty proposals and board or directors participation.
- Next on the agenda is designing the base infrastructure for IWPS and fine-tuning our pont system for Season 2. Expect us to announce another RFP in one of the next couple of newsletters.
- The NFT Working Group
- The Ethereum Pectra upgrade is just around the corner and it will cause issues for existing NFT royalty solutions. The NFTWG is working with our leading NFT members to design a solution that will be effective after the upgrade and easy to use as well.
- Many of our members are participating in the Digital Asset Management Working Group at the Metaverse Standards Forum. The current effort is to build use cases for NFT metadata. There are dozens of use cases on the list, from mounts to consumables. Once the high priority use cases are completed we expect the standardization effort for many of them to be completed in the OMA3 NFTWG
A growing family
Since our June newsletter, we have two new board members - please welcome XRDNA and Identity.com. Philip Shoemaker of Identity.com writes “"I am thrilled to join the OMA3 board and contribute to shaping the future of metaverse interoperability. As a member, I’ve always believed that building open standards across metaverses is essential to unlocking the full potential of this technology for the masses. I look forward to collaborating with the OMA3 board and community to drive the development of metaverse standards to new heights." Charles Adelman, CEO of XRDNA added “XRDNA’s mission, my passion, and OMA3’s goals closely align, and with the backing of the almost 100 companies and hundreds of engineers that are part of the consortium, I am confident we can create an open, interoperable metaverse—starting by building a registry firmly rooted in open source principles.”
