WORKING GROUP UPDATES
In July of last year we officially announced the Inter World Portaling System with exclusive coverage from Dean Takahashi of Venturebeat. After dozens of meetings we are ready to release the first IWPS Draft Specification for public comment. See the PMWG update below for details.
With the release of the IWPS draft spec, OMA3 is officially in build mode! We are not only writing the specifications for the open metaverse, we are also building the infrastructure that will enable it as well- identity systems, discovery (yes, this is a tease for future news), cross-chain asset transfer mechanisms, and more.
Here’s the progress on OMA3’s three active working groups:
- The Portaling and Mapping Working Group
- We are excited to release the IWPS draft specification, but even more excited to get feedback. We designed the base system to be a 3D version of a hyperlink, which means it is agnostic to Web2 or Web3 and it is peer-to-peer. We also added provisions for security and privacy so we don’t repeat the mistakes of the early Internet protocols. Building a system that spans device platforms wasn’t easy, so we need your feedback to make sure we got it right. We fully expect there to be modifications to address comments.
- If you have comments, the way to submit them is to create an issue in the Github repository. Please note that if you submit a comment you are agreeing to OMA3’s Intellectual Property Rights Policy. This is to help protect the OMA3 community from IP lawsuits like patent infringement. If you want to make comments that involve your IP, understand the README before doing so.
- The Token and Infrastructure Working Group
- IWPS is a peer-to-peer base specification, but the specification does refer to infrastructure that can augment the system and make it easier to use and adopt by a wider range of virtual worlds (e.g.- pure blockchain games). TIWG has been debating the lower level infrastructure needed to enable these augmentations- everything from launching our own chain to building on existing chains with cross-chain infrastructure.
- The NFT Working Group
- As we mentioned in the last newsletter, NFTWG is expanding its scope to standardization of NFT metadata, building on use cases being developed in the Metaverse Standards Forum Digital Asset Management Working Group. We will be expanding even more to address some of the metaverse reputation use cases that were developed in MSF.
A NEW PARTNERSHIP: BRI AND OMA3 BETTER TOGETHER
Blockchain Research Institute (operating as BRI) and OMA3 are now partners! BRI is an independent global think tank dedicated to exploring the strategic implications of Web3 for business, government, and society and is the author of the best selling book Blockchain Revolution . Their mission is to empower organizations to thrive in the digital age through comprehensive educational resources, tailored research, and expert advisory services that support informed decision-making and effective action.
As part of the partnership agreement, OMA3 leaders get access to a suite of program deliverables, including research projects, courses, webinars, podcasts, events, and other exclusive activities. OMA3 is making these privileges available to its regular members on a first-come first-serve basis, so reach out to OMA3 if you are interested. In turn, BRI members can participate in the OMA3 Working Groups through a participation agreement, much like MSF and BGA members do. Members of OMA3 can subscribe to the BRI monthly newsletter to stay updated on relevant activities, research, events, and community announcements. For more information, reach out to Andrew Facciolo, BRI's Director of Client Experience.
OMA3 and BRI will also be hosting joint upcoming events so keep your eyes peeled for more detail. We are looking forward to more enterprise participation in OMA3 working groups!
A NEW BOARD MEMBER
OMA3 is pleased to announce Liteflow as our newest board member! OMA3 used Liteflow’s technology and services to launch the OMA token last August and their infrastructure perspective has been invaluable in TIWG meetings. From Liteflow’s CEO Anthony Estebe: “We are thrilled to join the board of OMA3 and collaborate with some of the top leaders in the space on their mission to create interoperable, standardized, and user-owned tools. At Liteflow, our mission to help businesses transition into Web3 has always centered around interoperability, standardization, and ownership—core principles that align perfectly with OMA3's vision.” We have no doubt Liteflow will be a valuable addition to our strategic leadership team. Welcome to the board Liteflow!
Sincerely,
team
