Hey OMA3,
There’s a lot of impactful content in this newsletter so let’s get right to it.
OMA3 is thrilled to announce its next groundbreaking project: the Spatial Store. The Spatial Store is a decentralized app store that changes the way users discover, interact with, and experience the open 3D internet. Even more importantly, it gives more power to the developers themselves rather than centralized gatekeepers. Here’s Dean Takahashi's article on the Spatial Store in Venturebeat:
Venturebeat: OMA3 expands effort to make standards for the Open Spatial Internet
Why Spatial Store?
The current landscape of metaverse applications is siloed across disparate platforms- web browsers, mobile app stores, gaming consoles, and goggles just to name a few. This fragmentation hinders users from discovering and seamlessly transitioning between 3D experiences. In addition, metaverse and gaming applications that integrate Web3 technologies are often nerfed or barred from the most popular app stores. The Spatial Store addresses this challenge by providing an open and permissionless platform that leverages OMA3’s IWPS (Inter World Portaling System) to tie siloed platforms together and pave the way for the open spatial web.
How It Works
Current app stores have centralized control and centralized architecture. A single company runs (and tightly controls) a server that holds the apps. In our decentralized model, applications are tokenized by their developers and registered on-chain, no permissions required. Then, anyone can post data (called “attestations”) on these applications, such as user reviews and cybersecurity audits.
The “stores” themselves (of which OMA3’s Spatial Store will be just one of many) “browse” tokenized applications onchain and use the attestations to decide how to present these applications to the user. For example, a store can choose to only display cybersecurity-audited applications to users. This app store architecture establishes a decentralized ecosystem that eliminates centralized control and puts more control in the hands of users and developers, while at the same time addressing the problem of malicious or buggy apps.
The Spatial Store leverages OMA3’s Inter World Portaling System to do what no existing app store can do today. Applications in the store can reside on any platform, not just the platform the store is on. For example, a user could click on an application on the store website and then receive a notification on a different piece of hardware to launch the iOS app. In this way, the Spatial Store serves as a gateway to the complete metaverse, providing users with a unified and user-friendly experience.
Join the Movement
OMA3 invites developers, technologists, and visionaries to actively participate in shaping the Spatial Store. We have issued a detailed Request for Proposals (RFP) to build and enhance the infrastructure that will support this transformative platform. Developers can visit our pre-alpha preview now and get a taste of what’s to come.
OMA3 MSF Connect - A successful launch event!
Our first OMA3 MSF Connect session in the metaverse was a success! Over 60 attendees joined our custom-built UBU virtual world to discuss the future of Web3 and the metaverse with Sebastian Oddo of Mastercard and Robby Yung of Animoca Brands. You can now watch highlights from these industry leaders discussing the vision, strategy, and impact of the intersection of the metaverse and Web3:

Building the Metaverse of Tomorrow
Stay tuned for the next sessions where we will discuss the intersection of AI and the metaverse. The sessions will also include a virtual exhibition hall. If you are interested in being an exhibitor or speaker at these sessions, please contact our new Ecosystem Working Group Chair- Mic Mann! mic@playubu.ai.
Warm regards,
