Hello,
A lot has happened at OMA3 since our last OMA3 Community update in February, and the leading story is our new partnership with Metaverse Standards Forum (MSF)! Here’s what’s in this update:
- A major partnership with MSF: It’s never been easier to get involved with OMA3!
- Working those Working Groups: progress on standards.
- A growing family: announcing new members to OMA3.
- Heading to Singapore: see you at Token2049!

We have a new friend in MSF
As you may have heard, we’ve struck a liaison agreement with MSF, the largest metaverse standards forum in the industry. Some of the biggest Web2 metaverse companies are part of MSF, including Meta, Nvidia, Epic, Unity, Tencent, and W3C, and this partnership gives them a path to Web3 by allowing all MSF members to participate in our working group discussions. How can you leverage this partnership to become a metaverse influencer? It’s simple- join MSF as a participant member for free, then sign our Participation Agreement (note: OMA3 membership is still needed if you want the ability to vote in working groups or participate in our token architecture). Again, it’s never been easier to help build the open and user-centric metaverse!
Our partnership with MSF was discussed during a joint panel at SIGGRAPH where OMA3 Executive Director Alfred Tom discussed OMA3’s collaboration with Metaverse Standards Forum (MSF) as well as our informal relationships with Khronos Group and the newly created Alliance for Open USD (AOUSD). The line to get into the ballroom was pretty darn long but well worth it. Other panelists included Neil Trevett of MSF, Marc Petit of Epic Games, Yu Yuan of IEEE, Guy Martin of AOUSD, and Matt White of Open Metaverse Foundation. OMA3 was very much recognized as the leader for Web3 standards. 💪🏼
Working those Working Groups
In July we released a position paper on the Inter World Portaling System, or IWPS in short, as a first stake in the ground for building a true cross-world, cross-platform metaverse. Since then, several companies have expressed interest in joining OMA3. The Portaling and Mapping Working Group even held a members-only hack-a-thon to bridge the gap between spec writing and implementation. We created a cross world portal including cross world messaging, with existing code!
If you're enthusiastic about a user-owned metaverse where individuals can seamlessly transfer their unique digital identities between worlds, you're in the right place. Reach out to us at info@oma3.org if you’d like to participate in either or both efforts. If you are not a member and would like to become one, sign up here.
A growing family
We've doubled in size since February. A most hearty welcome to our new members Enjinstarter, 99Starz, MEWS, CodeCluster, MetaverseJapan, Metalistings, STYLE Protocol, Nifty Craft, Vermillio, Africarare, Forj, Alice Foundation, Lamina1, LëtzPlay, MetaHi, MetaMapp, Freename AG, Over the Reality, Identity.org, XRDNA, and last but not least, SphereOne! We are all excited to have you as part of our growing community and very much look forward to all the great contributions you will make to our mission.
Heading to Singapore
